FAQs
What are Gold Filled and Gold Vermeil?
We use a mix of either gold filled or gold vermeil (pronounced ver-may) for our gold jewellery. Gold filled is a thick layer of 14kt solid gold which is mechanically bonded to a brass base using heat and pressure. It is much thicker layer of gold that you would find in gold plated jewellery and is therefore is very hard wearing and can last for many years. It is the next best thing to wearing solid gold, but is a much more cost effective material.
Vermeil is a thickly plated layer of at least 14k gold or rose gold onto a sterling silver base. Due to the thickness of its plating, as well as the playing process, vermeil is again much more durable than other plated jewellery. Although not quite as durable as the gold filled method, it can still last for years if properly cared for.
Both gold filled and gold vermeil are suitable for sensitive skin. They are both widely used as quality and affordable alternatives to real gold.
How do I care for my jewellery?
We recommend not to shower or bathe in your jewellery, and avoid it coming into contact with lotions, perfumes and oils. Your jewellery can be cleaned carefully with a soft, non-abrasive and lint-free cloth which will help to maintain or bring back its shine. For an occasional extra clean, you can also use a mild washing up liquid with warm water and a soft toothbrush, then rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft cloth.
